Awareness and guilt
Awareness and guilt
"When any of the people become aware of their guilt in any of these ways, they must confess their sin (Lev.5.5 NLT)
Guilt is a useless and needless emotion. It is an after-effect emotion, that is, an emotion we feel after the deed has been done or has not been done as the case may be. You feel guilty for doing something you should not have done or for something you should have done.
The text talks about not just the guilt but the awareness of the guilt. That means people can be guilty and yet not be aware of it. And you notice that when they are not aware of it their despoistion is different than when they become aware of it.
Out text says when they become aware of their guilt, they must confess their sin. So sin is the source of guilt. But when you are aware that your sin nature has been dealt with, guilt becomes useless. The Bible says Jesus became sin for us but it did not just become sin for us, but also that we may become the righteousness of God in Christ.
"God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." (2Cor.5.21)
And because we are the righteousness of God in Christ, the Apostle says sin shall not dominion over me.
"For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace." (Rom.6.14)
So if I become aware of sin in my life, I confess it and move on according to 1 John. 1.9.
So that I will be able to come boldly to the throne of grace and enjoy my fellowship with the father and the son.
"We are telling you about what we ourselves have actually seen and heard, so that you may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. (1John.1.3 NLT)
