Joshua Spoke, the People Moved

Joshua Spoke, the People Moved

“And it happened. Joshua spoke, the people moved. Seven priests carrying seven ram’s-horn trumpets went out before the LORD. As they walked, they blew the trumpets, leading the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD.” (Joshua 6:8)

When Joshua gave the instruction, the people did not argue, analyze endlessly, or delay. He spoke—and they moved. That simple act of obedience set divine power in motion. History was shaped not merely by what was said, but by what was done.

Actions give weight to knowledge. What we do with the truth we receive determines the outcomes we experience. Many of us know what is right, what God has said, and what steps we should take—but knowing alone does not transform a life. If we consistently acted on every truth we already knew, our lives would look very different. The real question, then, is not “What more do I need to hear?” but “What is stopping me from acting?”

This text teaches us how to relate to God’s Word: Joshua spoke, and the people moved. They heard the instruction and responded immediately. They did not hesitate. They did not postpone obedience. Movement followed the word. Often, we claim to be waiting on God, when in fact God is waiting on us to act on the last instruction He gave. Could it be that the barrier before you remains because you have not yet acted on the truth you already know? Could your next level be tied to obedience at your present level?

James warns us clearly that hearing without doing is self-deception:

"Don’t fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear! Those who hear and don’t act are like those who glance in a mirror and walk away.” (James 1:22–23)

God’s Word is meant to be practiced, not merely admired. When we obey, we align ourselves with God’s power and purposes. Be a doer of the Word. Carry out the instruction. Walk in obedience—and watch God change your life for the better.

Reflection

What instruction has God already given you that you are yet to act upon? Are you waiting for a new word when obedience to the last one is what is required? Today, examine your heart and ask for the grace to move when God speaks. Remember: revelation becomes transformation only when it is obeyed.

Prayer

Lord, I thank You for Your Word that brings light and direction to my life. Forgive me for the times I have heard Your instructions but delayed in obedience. Give me a willing heart and the courage to act on Your truth without hesitation. Help me to be a doer of Your Word and not a hearer only. As I move in obedience, let Your power be released in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Have a fruitful day,
