Preserve God’s Holiness
Preserve God’s Holiness
"And don't dare bring one of these abominations home or you'll end up just like it, burned up as a holy destruction. No: It is forbidden! Hate it. Abominate it. Destroy it and preserve GOD's holiness.” — Deuteronomy 7:26 (MSG)
How can one preserve God’s holiness?
First, we must understand that holiness is not just what God does — it is who He is. Holiness is the very nature of God. Everything that proceeds from Him bears that same nature of holiness.
Through the new birth in Christ, we have been made partakers of His divine nature. The Apostle Peter reminds us:
“We were also given absolutely terrific promises to pass on to you—your tickets to participation in the life of God after you turned your back on a world corrupted by lust.” — 2 Peter 1:4 (MSG)
In our main text, God warns Israel not to bring anything set apart for destruction — idols and detestable things — into their homes. Why? Because even though such things might appear attractive, they are cursed. To preserve God’s holiness, they were to hate, abominate, and destroy these idols.
The same principle applies to us today. God calls us to keep our lives free from anything that will draw us away from Him. Anything that lures your heart away from devotion, purity, and truth is an abomination.
To preserve God’s holiness within us means to treat sin as God does — with hatred and rejection. The holiness you now share as a child of God must be guarded by staying separate from anything unholy.
“By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.” — Proverbs 16:6 (KJV)
When you walk in the fear of the Lord, you preserve His holiness in your life. His mercy cleanses, His truth guides, and His fear keeps you from straying.
Reflection
What idols have subtly found their way into your life — habits, desires, or distractions that pull you away from God’s presence? True holiness begins with recognizing them and destroying their hold. To preserve God’s holiness, you must preserve His place in your heart.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for making me a partaker of Your divine nature. Help me to hate what You hate and love what You love. Give me grace to preserve Your holiness in my life — to walk in truth, purity, and reverence. Keep my heart free from every defilement, and let Your holiness shine through me. Amen.
Have a fruitful day,
