God Buried Moses
God Buried Moses
“And He buried him in the valley in the land of Moab, opposite Beth Peor; but no one knows his grave to this day.”— Deuteronomy 34:6
Moses remains the only human in Scripture whose burial was carried out by God Himself. Though Jesus died and was laid in a borrowed tomb, He was buried by men. Moses, however, died and was buried by God. This single act speaks volumes about the honour God placed on His servant and the finality of his assignment.
Moses represented a season—the past of Israel’s journey. Joshua represented what was ahead—the future. When Moses died, the people mourned him, but God buried him. Israel wept; God moved the story forward.
“The people of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days. Then the days of weeping and mourning for Moses came to an end.”. Deuteronomy 34:8
There comes a time when mourning must end so movement can begin. God did not allow Israel to cling endlessly to what had been. He closed one chapter decisively so another could open clearly.
Reflection
One powerful lesson emerges from this account: some things must be buried for progress to occur. We may mourn seasons, losses, missed opportunities, or even past victories—but we must not live there.
Just as God buried Moses, He invites us to bury the past. The year 2025 has ended. Whatever it carried—joy or regret, success or disappointment—belongs behind us now. The year 2026 has arrived, carrying fresh grace, new possibilities, and divine opportunities.
Do not camp around what God has already closed. Allow Him to bury the past so you can step boldly into the future He has prepared.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the wisdom hidden in Your Word. Help me to release what is past and to trust You with what lies ahead. Where I have been holding on to old seasons, old hurts, or old failures, give me the grace to let go. Bury everything that no longer serves Your purpose in my life, and open my eyes to the new opportunities before me. As I step into this new year, lead me forward with faith, courage, and obedience. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Happy New Year!
Welcome to a new beginning—and may this truly be your best year yet.
Have a fruitful day,
