With Such an Attitude
With Such an Attitude
“She said, ‘Of course I’ll go with you. But understand that with an attitude like that, there will be no glory for you. The LORD will hand Sisera over to a woman.’ So Deborah went with Barak to Kedesh.” (Judges 4:9)
It is often said that attitude is everything—and in this passage, that truth is unmistakable.
Through Deborah, God gave Barak a clear promise of victory over Sisera. Yet, Barak hesitated. He was unwilling to step forward in obedience unless Deborah accompanied him. While God still granted victory, He made it clear that Barak’s reluctance would cost him the honor—Sisera would fall, but not by Barak’s hand.
This shows us something powerful: our attitude matters deeply to God. Willingness, courage, and trust are not optional in our walk with Him—they are essential. A hesitant or conditional obedience can limit the fullness of what God intends to do through us.
The prophet Isaiah reminds us that willingness positions us for God’s best. And in Philippians 2:5, we are called to have the same attitude as Christ—an attitude marked by humility, surrender, and complete obedience. Jesus did not resist God’s will; He embraced it fully, even when it led to sacrifice.
So the question becomes personal: what is your attitude toward God’s instructions? Are you willing, or are you negotiating?
A willing heart attracts God’s glory. A reluctant one may still see results—but miss the honor.
Reflection:
God is not only interested in what we do, but how we do it. Your attitude can either open doors to divine honor or quietly redirect it to someone else. Check your heart—are you fully yielded, or holding back?
Prayer:
Lord, give me a willing heart. Help me to obey You without hesitation, fear, or conditions. Shape my attitude to reflect that of Christ—humble, trusting, and fully surrendered. Let my life bring You glory, and may I never miss what You have prepared for me because of reluctance. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Have a fruitful day,
