Fellowship of His suffering

Fellowship of His Suffering

"This is the kind of life you've been invited into, the kind of life Christ lived. He suffered everything that came his way so you would know that it could be done, and also know how to do it, step-by-step."  (1Pet.2.21 MSB)

The Master left many examples for us to follow. He showed us how to heal the sick, taught us how to pray but also left us an example of Suffering. The Apostle Paul calls it the fellowship of His Suffering, and he longed to share in it.

"That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;"(Phil.3.10)

Our text says we have been invited to the kind of life that Christ lived. He suffered everything that came his way and we are invited to share in the suffering

"This suffering is all part of what God has called you to. Christ, who suffered for you, is your example. Follow in his steps." (1Pet.2.21 NLT)

It is noteworthy to mention that this suffering has nothing to do with sickness and poverty but everything to do with the shame that is associated with sharing the gospel. The early church rejoiced to share in this suffering.

"And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name." (Acts.5.40 - 41)

Today, we could hardly "suffer shame for his name". May we be found worthy to share in this fellowship of His suffering. Amen 🙌
