Free slave

"You are not slaves; you are free. But your freedom is not an excuse to do evil. You are free to live as God's slaves. (1Pet.2.16 NLT)

I have often insisted that one always has options. To choose or not to choose, to be free or not to be free. The concept of freedom is fascinating and so also is that of slavery - that one is one or the other boils down to one's choice. 

Our text agrees with me. He says you are not slaves; you are free. And then it concludes, that though one is free, one is only free to live as God's slave. 

So if you are free why live as slaves to God? Choice

You choose whose slaves you become. 

"Don't you realize that whatever you choose to obey becomes your master? You can choose sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God and receive his approval." (Rom.6.16 NLT)

So I insist that I am not a slave to anything or anyone. I am free and I use this freedom as a reason to live as God's slave. To God, I submit my will, my volition, my thoughts, and my life. I choose to be God's slave so I can live in perpetual freedom. 

You are free from the power of sin, free from sickness and disease, free from the bondage of fear, and free to live as a slave for God.

Jesus is the answer to the sin problem

Jesus is the answer to the sin problem  "When he served as a sacrifice for our sins, he solved the sin problem for good--not only ours, but the whole world's". (1John.1.2 MSB) When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, the sin passed through them to all men. And so the Bible recorded that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.  "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" (Rom.5.12)  But that was just the beginning of the story. Sin entered the world, and death came as a result of sin. It appears that mankind was doomed.  But Jesus came and served the punishment for sin and in so doing, He solved the sin problem for good. Now mankind has access once again to the Father. Now everything the Father has for us is at our disposal. Who makes me who I am

An Isoko adage says, "the name you call yourself is what others will call you. Meeting students, I have had cause to ask them if that was the name their parents named them and they say no. My real name is...and then they tell me. But whatever they call themselves is what other students call them. You are who you say you are, but the truth is, you act the way you become because you think that's who you are. So if you called yourself a policeman when you are a soldier, you will act as a policeman. If you are an eagle but call yourself a chicken, then you will act like a chicken. If you call yourself a failure, that's what you begin to act as. Little wonder, Jabez changed his name in the place of prayer, he declared that he is blessed and God granted his prayers.
