Wives, subordinate yourselves

"In like manner, you married women, be submissive to your own husbands [subordinate yourselves as being secondary to and dependent on them, and adapt yourselves to them], so that even if any do not obey the Word [of God], they may be won over not by discussion but by the [godly] lives of their wives, (1Pet.3.1 AMP)

In these days of women's empowerment, women's emancipation, and women's rights, we should not forget the structure God puts in place. No woman should be subjugated, it was always God's plan for a woman to have a place of pride beside her husband. 

Here in our text, Peter's instruction was not targeted at every woman in general but at married women specifically. Married women were asked to subordinate themselves to their husbands and not to every Tom, Dick, and Harry. When you hear some men speak, it is as though God instructed every woman to be submissive or subordinate to every man. No! But wives to their own husbands. 

It says in this way, should the husband be an unbeliever, the godly lives of the wife will win over the husband. Here we see one of the purposes of submission and that is so that the husband is won over to the Lord not by discussion but by godly living on the part of the wives. 

Our text says that the wife should subordinate herself to the leadership of her husband. That means it is doable and that may look hard, but with God, it is always for the best. Wives subordinate yourselves to your own husbands...

Jesus is the answer to the sin problem

Jesus is the answer to the sin problem  "When he served as a sacrifice for our sins, he solved the sin problem for good--not only ours, but the whole world's". (1John.1.2 MSB) When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, the sin passed through them to all men. And so the Bible recorded that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.  "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" (Rom.5.12)  But that was just the beginning of the story. An Isoko adage says, "the name you call yourself is what others will call you. Meeting students, I have had cause to ask them if that was the name their parents named them and they say no. My real name is...and then they tell me. But whatever they call themselves is what other students call them. You are who you say you are, but the truth is, you act the way you become because you think that's who you are. So if you called yourself a policeman when you are a soldier, you will act as a policeman. If you are an eagle but call yourself a chicken, then you will act like a chicken.
