Stop Second-Guessing Yourself
Stop Second-Guessing Yourself
"Issachar's princes rallied to Deborah, Issachar stood fast with Barak, backing him up on the field of battle. But in Reuben's divisions there was much second-guessing." (Judg. 5:15)
Action is more likely to guarantee success than second-guessing yourself any day.
After God, through Deborah, rallied Israel to rise against an enemy that had subdued them for a long time, the tribe of Issachar stood up and was counted. They followed Barak into battle and played their part in the victory. But the Bible says that in Reuben’s divisions there was much second-guessing. While others were moving forward in faith, Reuben was hesitating, debating, and doubting.
No victory is won until you try. If you keep second-guessing yourself, you will not make any headway. In a way, this was not new for Reuben. The Bible had already described Reuben as unstable as water.
"Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel..." (Gen. 49:4)
When Jacob spoke about Reuben, his firstborn, that was his verdict on his life — instability and indecision. Indecision will cost you more than a wrong decision. If you make a wrong decision, you can retrace your steps and learn what does not work. But indecision keeps you stuck in one place, watching others move forward while you remain where you are.
The Bible also says that a double-minded man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord because he is unstable in all his ways (James 1:7–8).
Stop second-guessing yourself. Take a stand one way or the other, and trust that God will direct your steps as you move.
Reflection:
Many people lose opportunities not because they are not capable, but because they keep doubting themselves, waiting for perfect conditions, perfect clarity, and perfect assurance. But most of the time, God guides us while we are moving, not while we are standing still. Faith is not always knowing everything before you act; sometimes faith is acting and trusting God with the outcome. Do not let fear, doubt, or overthinking keep you where you are. Move forward in faith.
Prayer:
Lord, deliver me from fear, doubt, and indecision. Give me the courage to act when You call and the wisdom to trust You with the outcome. Help me not to be unstable or double-minded, but to be firm, faithful, and obedient. Direct my steps as I move forward, and grant me victory in the battles before me in Jesus' name. Amen.
Have a fruitful day,
