Faith works by love

A wise man once said that "having faith is simply about being persuaded that the Lord is good and that His word is true".

Faith is an essential factor in the Christian walk. When we look at the concept of faith we see faith In operation in several facets. We see faith as to how we please God.

"But without faith, it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Heb:11;6)

What does that tell us?

That faith is not necessarily just a commodity to acquire stuff from God but it is primarily a means by which we please God. This is not the thrust of most people that seek to have faith. Their thrust is to use faith as a means of exchange, a currency with which they acquire stuff.

We also know that by faith we can acquire stuff. Jesus said, "Be it unto you according to your faith". (See Matt:9:29) So faith acquires.

And then Ephesian tells us that faith acts as a protective shield by which we "quench all the fiery darts of the wicked." Eph:6:16 calls it the "shield of faith".

But the Apostle Paul tells us here in our text that faith works by love

"For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love."(Gal.5.6)

He says in Christ circumcision does not profit you neither does uncircumcision but faith which works by love. That means faith also does not profit the believer except it is accomplished by love.

As faith without works is dead so also faith without love is dead

Faith without love cannot please God, faith without love cannot acquire stuff, and faith without love cannot shield you. To your faith add a healthy dose of love. Faith works by love.
