Awake from sleep and arise from the dead

When Jesus told the story of Lazarus to his disciples, he mentioned that Lazarus was asleep and that they were on their way to wake him up. But the disciples were like if he was asleep let him sleep; he will sooner than later be awake. But Jesus had to make it plain that Lazarus was dead and he was on his way to raise him back to life. (see John:11:11-15)

That paints a picture of two of the words used in our text today awake and arise.

"Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light".(Eph. 5.14)

Awake as used here denote something that one can engage in by one's self-effort but arise on the other hand requires assistance. If you were asleep, lackadaisical, in a state of inactivity it is time to awake. To become active.

But to arise suggest to go a step further. As to move from one level to another. It appears that for you to be able to arise you must first awake.

It requires light for you to be able to do either. It may seem that you will either awake or arise before you receive light but in reality, it is the light you receive that enables and propels you to awake and to arise. The New Living Translation makes this obvious: "And where your light shines, it will expose their evil deeds. This is why it is said, "Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light." (Eph.5.14)

I don't know where you are, but it is time to awake and to arise. Receive the light you need to awake and arise and go to the next level. Amen
