Everyone is doing it is no longer an excuse

One of the forms of modern slavery in today's world is doing something because everyone else is doing it. There is no individuality, no independent thinking but a constant "going along with the crowd, the empty-headed, mindless crowd".

The crowd out there is mindless and even when it is not mindless, at best it is empty-headed. We must beat the group thinking. That everyone else is doing it is not a good enough reason for you to do it.

The Prophet Moses admonished us to this effect. Exod.23.2 tells us to "...not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment".

No doubt Social Media has made this even more difficult in this day and time. Everyone thinks everyone is making it but everyone knows that everyone is faking it at some level, yet we are all flowing and following the tide.

"And so I insist--and God backs me up on this--that there be no going along with the crowd, the empty-headed, mindless crowd." (Eph.4.17 MSG)

The Apostle Paul says he insists. Now that is a very important word and must be understood as such. For one to insist means something, an idea, or someone is trying to convince or persuade you otherwise. That also suggests to us that one must take a stand if one does not wish to be swept away by the prevailing excuse that everyone is doing it.

Finally, the Apostle points out that God backs him up on this. Making us realize that it was not what "the empty-headed, mindless crowd" says and does that matters but what God backs up. One with God is a majority. This does not mean being anti-social but rather God-centered and God-minded. Everyone is doing it is no longer an excuse.

Jesus is the answer to the sin problem

Jesus is the answer to the sin problem  "When he served as a sacrifice for our sins, he solved the sin problem for good--not only ours, but the whole world's". (1John.1.2 MSB) When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, the sin passed through them to all men. And so the Bible recorded that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.  "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" (Rom.5.12)  But that was just the beginning of the story. An Isoko adage says, "the name you call yourself is what others will call you. Meeting students, I have had cause to ask them if that was the name their parents named them and they say no. My real name is...and then they tell me. But whatever they call themselves is what other students call them. You are who you say you are, but the truth is, you act the way you become because you think that's who you are. So if you called yourself a policeman when you are a soldier, you will act as a policeman. If you are an eagle but call yourself a chicken, then you will act like a chicken. If you call yourself a failure, that's what you begin to act as. Little wonder, Jabez changed his name in the place of prayer, he declared that he is blessed and God granted his prayers.
