The three-way action test

God has a three-way action test. This tests the actions we take as believers. A wise man said the unexamined life is not worth living. Now and then we must examine our actions. Our thoughts become our actions. So instead of judging from our actions maybe we should start from our thoughts.

"For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true." (Eph.5.9 NLT)

You are a product of light, therefore you must radiate light, for light is within you. Your actions reflect your thoughts. And this is a simple test to help you examine your actions.

Paul says that your thoughts must be good. Good actions only proceed from good thoughts. You cannot think ill of others and expect your actions toward them to be good. If your actions will be good, your thought must first be good. The Psalmist talks about a "pure heart". (see Psalm:24:4) Pure hearts, pure thoughts, pure thoughts, good actions.

The next test bothers on the right actions. This is a step away from good. Certain actions are good but are not right. The Apostle Paul talks about things that are good, expedient, and permissible but are not right. "I am allowed to do anything"--but not everything is helpful. Don't think only of your own good". (see 1Cor.10.23-24). Choose right over good any day.

Finally, he says your actions must not only be good and right, but they must also be true. Let the truth be the cornerstone of your actions. When Paul instructed us on what to think, the first attribute was true. "Whatsoever things are true... think on these things" (see Phil:4:8) When the truth is the foundation of your thoughts, your actions will be right and good. Your thoughts are true when they are governed by the word of God. Think on these things...

And have a great day today,
