Which spirit are you drinking?

I have often wondered why alcoholic beverages are called spirits? Is it because it intoxicates? Maybe one day I will find out. But my question to you today is, which spirit are you drinking?

"Don't drink too much wine. That cheapens your life. Drink the Spirit of God, huge draughts of him." (EPH.5.18 MSG)

Our text says you should not drink too much wine. It implies you can drink some wine but not too much. And it says the reason you should not drink too much is that it cheapens you. In other words, too much wine reduces your value, it belittles you. Little wonder you see a drunk on the street and he is not himself, not coordinated, walks and falls, and speaks as though insane. He has been reduced by too much wine. Proverbs tells us that "it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:" (Prov.31.4)

But instead of wine, the verse admonished us to drink of the Spirit. It says drink huge draughs of him. How do one drink of the Spirit?

John.7.37 - 39 says "Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Rev.22.17 echos this truth. It says, "Come!" say the Spirit and the Bride. Whoever hears, echo, "Come!" Is anyone thirsty? Come! All who will, come and drink, Drink freely of the Water of Life!

The prerequisites for drinking the Spirit are that you are testy and that you come to Jesus to drink freely. Come to Jesus and drink freely of the Spirit of God.

Good day,
And have a great day today,
