Work with a smile on your face

A person without a smiling face should not keep a shop is the way a Chinese proverb goes. And this seems to agree with our text today.

"And work with a smile on your face, always keeping in mind that no matter who happens to be giving the orders, you're really serving God. (Eph.6.7 MSG)

Work with a smile on your face. A smile is an outward expression of an inner occurrence. It is an outward expression of an inner attitude. Some would say the smile is not real. That it is just a cover-up, a facade. And then they would add, "suffering and smiling".

But the Bible admonishes us to work with a smile on our faces. That's why you should work with people you can trust, this would make it easier. If not, then trust the people you work with. Your work should evoke a smile every time you think of it. But if it is not, ask God to give you something you will enjoy doing.

But the love for your job isn't the reason why you were asked to work with a smile on your face. The reason is that your service is to God and not to any man.

It says "always keep in mind". You must always remind yourself that it is service to the Lord, irrespective of who's giving the orders. Knowing that God will not allow any order that will work against His counsel for your life. The only time you should not carry out an order is if it is illegal, unethical, and immoral.

And if there is an order that seems to take away that smile from your face, you must remind yourself that this is service to the Lord and then ask Him to help you work with a smile on your face or give you the work that you will do with a smile on your face.

And have a great day today,
