Learning to trust God

"Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ," (Phil.3.8)

Very few people can make these assertions the Apostle Paul made in this verse. He said 'I count all things but loss'. Not Somethings but all things.

Do you remember the rich young ruler!? He had come to Jesus for the same reason that Apostle Paul had given us here - to gain Christ. The Bible record that he left in sorry. (see Mark:1017-27)

"And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions." (Mark.10.22) Another translation says, he left sad because he was holding unto a lot of things.

Can you trust God with your stuff? Can you let go and let God? A lot of people are holding unto a lot of things, that have taken the place of God in their lives. Can you trust God enough to count all things but dung?

It is also important for us to note that it was not only the good stuff that the Apostle Paul counted as dung but also the bad stuff. He said, 'for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung'. He also counts the things he suffered as dung.

For some people, it is not the good stuff - the cars, money, good marriage - that they are holding onto or that is holding them back. It is the bad stuff, the things they've suffered or stuffing - no money, no child, no visa, no job - that is holding them back from trusting God. They've given up not only on the ability of God but also on the sovereignty of God - the part of God that knows what's best for them.

Trust God with your pain, trust him with the good and the bad stuff. Count all things - good, bad, and ugly - as dung.

Why?

So that you will gain Christ. He says, "for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord:...that I may win Christ",(Phil.3.8) There's much more gain in winning Christ...learn to trust God. I trust you, Lord. Do you?

And have a great day today,
