The gospel according to suffering

The Bible talked about suffering for Christ as much as the blessings of Christ. The Apostle Paul says all those that will lead a godly life will suffer persecution. Jesus said if you will follow Him, you must take up your cross - a symbol of Christ's suffering- daily. The disciple rejoiced to be counted worthy to have suffered for Christ's sake.

"And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name".(Acts.5.41)

Do you see that?

Why?

They understood that it was just as important to suffer for Christ as it was to trust Him.

"There's far more to this life than trusting in Christ. There's also suffering for him. And the suffering is as much a gift as the trusting." (Phil.1.29 MSG)

It says the suffering is as much a gift as the trust. If you suffer for him it is only because God could trust you with that suffering. Hence, they were counted worthy.

Can Christ trust you with suffering? Can he gift you suffering?

When we talk about suffering it is noteworthy to mention that we do not refer to sickness, poverty, and death but to suffer as a result of living a godly life.

"Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution". (2Tim.3.12)

"But he shall receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life". (Mark.10.30)

There is a gospel according to suffering. Paul talked about the fellowship of his suffering.

"That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death". (Phil.3.10)

When we suffer with Christ or for living goldy, we are assured hundredfold returns (see Mark:10 29-30) There is a place of resisting even to the point of losing your life, that is the gospel according to suffering.
