For the long haul

"We pray that you'll have the strength to stick it out over the long haul--not the grim strength of gritting your teeth but the glory-strength God gives. It is strength that endures the unendurable and spills over into joy".

This passage is self-contradictory in so many ways yet true. How does one endure the unendurable and how does one grit one's teeth with glory-strength?

Sometimes what you need is the tenacity to stick it out over the long haul. Imagine that angels came to rescue Christ at calvary. Jesus said it this way, 'he that endures to the end the same shall be saved.

"And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved". (Mark.13.13)

We are not in this for the short run but the full length, the long haul. God did not promise a trouble-free ride but He promised never to leave you. He said He'll be with you in the fire that it will not burn you and through the water that it not overflow you. (see Isaiah:43:1-2) The three Hebrew boys are a case in point.

But my attention is more on the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, enduring the cross, despising the shame. He suffered unto death, till the end. Leaving us an example of what it means to endure the unendurable until it spills over into joy.

Purpose awaits whatever pain you feel. Joy at the end of the jail. Don't give up yet, hold on, it will end in praise. You are in this for the long haul. So I pray for you that you'll have the strength to stick it out over the long haul until it spills over into joy in Jesus' name. Amen

And have a great day today,
