Example of diligence

The Story is told of the man who said he made sure that his children saw him reading his Bible and praying daily. When he was asked why. He said he wanted them to see how it was done. Not just to tell them but to show them.

"And it wasn't because we didn't have a right to your support; we did. We simply wanted to provide an example of diligence, hoping it would prove contagious." (2Thess.3.9)

The Apostle Paul says "we simply wanted to provide an example of diligence". Providing an example was very important for the Apostle and his team. In a previous verse, he told us how they had worked their fingers to the bone, up half the night...

"We didn't sit around on our hands expecting others to take care of us. In fact, we worked our fingers to the bone, up half the night moonlighting so you wouldn't be burdened with taking care of us." (2Thess.3.8)

Today, we have too many preachers and teachers with too few examples to go on. A lot of sayers and fewer doers. Nothing inspires a replica as much as a good example. The Apostle says the reason they go through all the stress to provide the needed example was that they are hoping it would prove contagious".

In verse 7 he said, "For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you; (2Thess.3.8) Another translation says: We showed you how to pull your weight when we were with you, so get on with it." (2Thess.3.7) Get on with it.

What example are you leaving in your wake? Are they examples worth following? The Apostle Paul left an example of diligence... What's yours?

Good day,
