Yet the Lord is faithful

The previous verse had asked us to pray that we are delivered from unreasonable and wicked men. And then the next verse begins with the conjunction 'yet' to juxtapose the idea of unreasonable and wicked men on the one hand and the faithfulness of the Lord on the other.

We cannot exhaust the discussions on the faithfulness of our God. God is yet faithful despite unreasonable and wicked men. God is yet faithful despite your pain and trials. Our travails do not invalidate the faithfulness of our God.

"Yet the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen [you] and set you on a firm foundation and guard you from the evil [one]." (2Thess.3.3)

And because He is faithful, He will strengthen you and set you on a firm foundation and guard you from the evil one. It is important to pray as the Apostle Paul had instructed but if the truth were to be told, there have been times when you did not pray, yet the Lord was faithful to deliver you from the evil one.

God made it abundantly clear that it is His place to watch over you. Ps.121.8 "The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore." Here it did not say pray but He said He will do it. It is His place to keep and deliver us from the evil one.

Why then must we pray?

God may and will keep and deliver us from the evil one but our prayers will keep the evil one away from us. Jesus told His disciples to watch with him so that they do not enter into temptation.

"Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." (Matt.26.41)

Jesus, in teaching His disciples to pray says deliver us from evil.

"And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil... " (Matt.6.13)

While prayers may keep us away from evil it is God that keeps us away from the evil one.

God is yet faithful
