A worker deserves his pay

"Scripture tells us, "Don't muzzle a working ox," and, "A worker deserves his pay." (1Tim.5.18)

To say a worker deserves his pay is a statement of fact. There is on the one hand how well the worker may have done his work. This requires skills on the part of the worker. The Bible has a lot to say about skilled workers. (see Exo:31) The Bible talks about how skillful David was when King Saul employed him (1 Sam:16:16-23) And how in stewardship a man should be found faithful. Another translation says skillful and trustworthy (see 1 Cor:4:2)

And on the other hand, there is the employer for whom the worker has worked. There are certain employers for whom when you are done working, withhold your pay. This is what the Bible says to them

"At his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee." (Deut.24.15)

"Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbour's service without wages, and giveth him not for his work;" (Jer.22.13)

When a worker has done his job, which is what our text expects, then he deserves his pay.

We have in God, a better employer for Whom, when you have worked, be rest assured that you will get your pay. Jesus told the story of those who were idling away and were engaged to work. And how He paid them according to how He had agreed with them. But those who came earlier were complaining (see Matt:20'1-16)

"And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard. But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny? (Matt.20.2, 13)

A worker deserves his pay. As a worker, work skillfully and as an employer, do not withhold what is due to him. A worker deserves his pay.
