Life and immortality

It is more painful when a loved one transit, especially toward the end of the year. As I write, I just heard of the death of the great Brazilian footballer Edson Arantes do Nascimento popularly known as Pelé and the first question that popped up in my mind was why didn't he just hold on and get into the new year. It is painful. But come to think of it, the new year is just another new day, whether it reads 2022 or 2023.

But our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ has abolished death. He has formally put an end to death. Death is not an end, it is not cessation as some think of it. It is simply separation. Jesus abolished death when he died for us on the cross. Now we have the opportunity for life and immortality.

"But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel" (2Tim.1.10)

But this life and immortality are only revealed through the light of the gospel. Hence, the Apostle Paul says we do not mourn as those who have no hope. Why? Because those who have received the gospel have passed from death to life.

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." (John.5.24)

Have you passed from death to life? Do you have this life and immortality? Do you have everlasting life? You can receive life and immortality today by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ.

NB: This is the last Devotional for the year 2022. The next will be in the new year 2023 so let me take this time to say Happy New Year to you. See you in 2023.

Good day,
Have a great day today,
