Way not to get rich

"These people always cause trouble. Their minds are corrupt, and they don't tell the truth. To them religion is just a way to get rich." (1Tim.6.5)

The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ has never been a commodity for sale. Over the years there have been some who have made it a venture for money-making. But the Apostle Paul reminds us that this should not be the case

We saw in Acts 8 that after Samaria had received the gospel through the Evangelist Philip and Apostles Peter and John had gone to see what God was doing and to minister the Holy Spirit to new believers and they were offered money.

"And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money." (Acts.8.18 - 20)

The gift of God can never be purchased with money. The motive of Simon saw to buy the power of God so that on whomsoever he lays his hands they may receive the Holy Spirit. The gospel is not a quick means to financial freedom. If you seek first the kingdom of God, all other things including money will be added to you.

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." (Matt.6.33)

Let God be your motivation, pursue God, and not things and things will be added to you but pursue things and you may get things but lose God. Seek God.
