Endure Hardness

"Thou, therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ." (2Tim.2.3)

The word endure means to bear up until that thing pays you dues. To persevere under a heavy burden.

We see a perfect example of this in the book of Hebrews. "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." (Heb.12.2)

Jesus endured the cross, despising the shame and the result of that endurance is that he is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

As a good soldier, you too have to endure hardness just as Christ did. The Apostle Paul shares his own experience here with us.

"Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me." (2Tim.3.11)

So we see what we are to endure - persecution, and afflictions. But he says the Lord delivered him out of them all. But before that deliverance comes, as a good soldier you have to endure and stay under until you collect dues - result.

"But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them, that believe to the saving of the soul." (Heb.10.39)
