Ever learning, never able

The essence of learning is to be able. We learn so that we are able to... Learning helps us evolve and enables us. If one learns and one is not able to, then there is a problem. Ever learning and never being able to be is just as bad as never learning and never being able.

The Apostle spoke of certain women who were always learning but were not able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Learning is supposed to enable you, to empower you to be able to do, actualize, and most importantly become.

"Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth." (2Tim.3.7)

Why were they not able to come to the knowledge of the truth?

If we read this same verse 7 in the New Living Translation we may find out why.

"Such women are forever following new teachings, but they never understand the truth. (2Tim.3.7 NLT)

It says they are forever following new teachings. They never stay with the truth long enough for it to stick, take root and cause them to understand and grow. The Bible speaks to this effect when it says that we no longer be like children tossed to and fro and forever changing our minds

"Then we will no longer be like children, forever changing our minds about what we believe because someone has told us something different or because someone has cleverly lied to us and made the lie sound like the truth." (Eph.4.14 NLT)

So if what you are learning is not enabling you, it is either because you are not really learning or you are jumping to and from, and that you have refused to take root where you are planted and get watered by the Word so that you can grow and bring much fruit. The knowledge of God's word liberate, enables, and empowers.
