Insist on good works

"This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men." (Titus.3.8)

Consistency is the hallmark of maturity. When you can do something repeatedly, it is only because you have been trained and have practiced it long enough to remain consistent.

Consistency comes as a result of practice. Little wonder you see musicians rehearse over and over again. And when they come on stage, you wonder why they are that good. It is because they are so well practiced.

Our text says we must affirm constantly and that in so doing we might be careful to maintain good works. No one consistently gives himself to good works that will not get better at it.

Give yourself to good works, and look for small ways you can be a blessing to others. Start small and maintain it. It could just be helping someone, or just being there - a gift of your presence. But what is even more important is that you insist on it. Keep doing good, no matter how small, and keep doing good.

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." (Matt.5.16]
