Faith comes by hearing

"They never got there because they never listened, never believed. (Heb.3.19 MSB)

The background to our text was that God had made a promise to the children of Israel as they left Egypt that He was bringing them a land flowing with milk and honey - the promised land.

This was a promise made to Abraham before any of them was born. When Moses came into the picture, he rehearsed this same promise before the children of Israel. God brought the plague on the Egyptians as a result of this promise. They were all familiar with the promise.

Then the process of fulfillment began, they were in the wilderness and then they forgot every word of the promise they have ever heard. So our text says, they did not enter because they did not listen. They did not listen, because they did not believe. Whatever the promise of God is to you, keep it constantly in your mouth, speak it repeatedly, and consciously believe it. For faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. (see Rom:10:17)

Jesus is the answer to the sin problem

Jesus is the answer to the sin problem  "When he served as a sacrifice for our sins, he solved the sin problem for good--not only ours, but the whole world's". (1John.1.2 MSB) When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, the sin passed through them to all men. And so the Bible recorded that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.  "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" (Rom.5.12)  But that was just the beginning of the story. Sin entered the world, and death came as a result of sin. It appears that mankind was doomed.  But Jesus came and served the punishment for sin and in so doing, He solved the sin problem for good. Now mankind has access once again to the Father. Now everything the Father has for us is at our disposal. Who makes me who I am

An Isoko adage says, "the name you call yourself is what others will call you. Meeting students, I have had cause to ask them if that was the name their parents named them and they say no. My real name is...and then they tell me. But whatever they call themselves is what other students call them. You are who you say you are, but the truth is, you act the way you become because you think that's who you are. So if you called yourself a policeman when you are a soldier, you will act as a policeman. If you are an eagle but call yourself a chicken, then you will act like a chicken. If you call yourself a failure, that's what you begin to act as. Little wonder, Jabez changed his name in the place of prayer, he declared that he is blessed and God granted his prayers.
