Fake it, until you make it?

"By an act of faith he lived in the country promised him, lived as a stranger camping in tents. Isaac and Jacob did the same, living under the same promise." (Heb.11.9 MSB)

The word fake carries a negative colouration and as a result, it is important to say that it is used on the premise of sacrificing the message on the altar of style. Haven said that, let us replace fake with another word that will carry the intended message. That word would be imitating. 

To say that Abraham faked it would not sit well with popular theology. But let's keep an open mind for the sake of discussion. 

God made Abraham a promise to give him the land but before that promise became reality, Abraham had to live in that same land "as a stranger camping in tents". This is what I referred to as fake it until you make it. He was rehearsing what the promise called him to be even though in practice he wasn't it yet. He was the owner of the land by promise but a renter by practice even if it was for a while.

So do not be ashamed to 'fake' your promise while you are yet to come into the fullness of it. 

Romans 4:17 is beginning to make a lot more sense. He called those things that be not as though they were. 

"As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were." (Rom.4.17)

Jesus is the answer to the sin problem  "When he served as a sacrifice for our sins, he solved the sin problem for good--not only ours, but the whole world's". (1John.1.2 MSB) When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, the sin passed through them to all men. And so the Bible recorded that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.  "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" (Rom.5.12)  But that was just the beginning of the story. Sin entered the world, and death came as a result of sin. It appears that mankind was doomed.  But Jesus came and served the punishment for sin and in so doing, He solved the sin problem for good. Who makes me who I am

An Isoko adage says, "the name you call yourself is what others will call you. Meeting students, I have had cause to ask them if that was the name their parents named them and they say no. My real name is...and then they tell me. But whatever they call themselves is what other students call them. You are who you say you are, but the truth is, you act the way you become because you think that's who you are. So if you called yourself a policeman when you are a soldier, you will act as a policeman. If you are an eagle but call yourself a chicken, then you will act like a chicken. If you call yourself a failure, that's what you begin to act as. Little wonder, Jabez changed his name in the place of prayer, he declared that he is blessed and God granted his prayers.
