Looking unto Jesus

Looking unto Jesus

"Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." (Heb.12.2)

The songwriter wrote, "Look to Jesus now and live". Who or what you look at determines your focus. And your focus determines where you go, how you live, and what you do.

We look to Jesus because He is the author and finisher of our faith. That means we began and end up in Him. Without Him, we can do nothing. All the more reason to keep your eyes locked on Jesus.

How do we look to Jesus?

By looking at the word of God. Jesus is the same as the word of God. The Bible is the written word, and Jesus is the living word. John 1:14 says that the word became flesh. So if you want to see Jesus, look at the word of God.

I like the way the message puts it:
"Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we're in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed--that exhilarating finish in and with God--he could put up with anything along the way: cross, shame, whatever. And now he's there, in the place of honor, right alongside God."(Heb.12.2 MSB)

Study how Jesus did it. It says Jesus never lost sight of where He was headed". Keep your eyes on Jesus. Let me say it another way: "Keep your mind on the word of God". That way your eyes are on Jesus. Let the word saturate your thinking.

"But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;" (Rom.10.8)

Keeping the word in your heart and your mouth s keeping your eyes on Jesus. Look to Jesus now and live.
