Saving your soul

Saving your soul

"Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls." (Jas.1.21)

There are so many carnal Christians today - that is, people who are born again but ruled by the desires of their souls and body. That is, they are not ruled by the dictates of the word of God.

Hence we see very little change in our world today. Many profess to be Christians but have refused to live their lives by the standard of the word of God. And that is because, though their spirit is saved, they are doing nothing to save their soul.

Man is a spirit, he has a soul and lives in a body. (See 1 Thess:5:23) So the Apostle James says we should lay aside the filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness but did not stop there. Most people are trying to do this in their strength, hence you see people repeatedly entangled in the same struggle again and again.

The solution is to receive with meekness the engrafted word. The word of God is the only agent responsible and capable to save our souls. Peter tells us that it is by the Word that we can grow.
"As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:"(1 Peter:2:2)

The Psalmist shows us the way anyone can cleanse their way. "Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word."(Ps.119.9)

The Master concluded "Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you."(John.15.3) Read the word, hear the word, and do the word.

Have a great day today,
