Prepare your mind for action

Prepare your mind for action

"Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. (1Pet.1.13 NIV)

When you begin a sentence with therefore, it shows that there was a precedent, a premise that gives right to the therefore. The premise for the therefore in our text is found in verse 12.

"Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into." (1Pet.1.12)

And it is that the gospel was preached through the Holy Spirit as it now preaches to us. And because it is preached to us therefore prepare your mind for action.

Another way to say this would be, "Be prepared". Set your hope fully on the grace. So my preparation as adequate as it may seem, is to fully hope on the grace that is given to us.

Prepare but depend. In other words, do everything you possibly humanly can but depend on the grace that the Holy Spirit gives. Read for your exam, do your due diligence, and carry out your survey but fully depend on the grace that the Holy Spirit gives. It is the attitude that says, "My total dependence is on You Holy Spirit."

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." (Prov.3.5 - 6)
