Your ego or your soul?

"Friends, this world is not your home, so don't make yourselves cozy in it. Don't indulge your ego at the expense of your soul." (1Pet.2.11 MSB)

The singer Jim Reeves got it right when he sang, "This world is not my home". And that is what our text affirms today. Indeed, we do not want to be too heaven-conscious that we are of no earthly good but our text is plain, that this world as we know it is not our home. 

As a result, it says do not make yourself cozy in it. I like the way another translation puts it,  it say "I warn you to keep away from evil desires because they fight against your very souls."( 1Pet.2.11 NLT) 

The Apostle Peter says "Don't indulge your ego at the expense of your soul."  Jesus asked a pertinent question, "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Mark.8.36)

Whatever you do here in this world that is not your home is temporary and is a down payment for what is to come. It is an exchange. Make sure it is good and enhances and beautifies your eternal home.

Jesus is the answer to the sin problem

Jesus is the answer to the sin problem  "When he served as a sacrifice for our sins, he solved the sin problem for good--not only ours, but the whole world's". (1John.1.2 MSB) When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, the sin passed through them to all men. And so the Bible recorded that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.  "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" (Rom.5.12)  But that was just the beginning of the story. Sin entered the world, and death came as a result of sin. It appears that mankind was doomed.  But Jesus came and served the punishment for sin and in so doing, He solved the sin problem for good. Now mankind has access once again to the Father. Now everything the Father has for us is at our disposal. Who makes me who I am

An Isoko adage says, "the name you call yourself is what others will call you. Meeting students, I have had cause to ask them if that was the name their parents named them and they say no. My real name is...and then they tell me. But whatever they call themselves is what other students call them. You are who you say you are, but the truth is, you act the way you become because you think that's who you are. So if you called yourself a policeman when you are a soldier, you will act as a policeman. If you are an eagle but call yourself a chicken, then you will act like a chicken. If you call yourself a failure, that's what you begin to act as. Little wonder, Jabez changed his name in the place of prayer, he declared that he is blessed and God granted his prayers.
