Abide in Him

Abide in Him

"No one who abides in Him [who lives and remains in communion with and in obedience to Him - deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] commits (practices) sin. No one who [habitually] sins has either seen or known Him [recognized, perceived, or understood Him, or has had an experiential acquaintance with Him]. (1John.3.6 AMP)

It was Jesus who said If you abide in me and my words abide in you, you will ask what you will and it shall be done

"If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you." (John.15.7)

That is a blank check. And the only prerequisite is for you to abide in Christ. But John in his epistle tells us that abiding in Christ also frees us from willful and deliberate sin.

What does it mean to abide in Christ?

It means to live and remain in communion with and in obedience to Christ. It says if you abide in Him you will not deliberately, knowingly, and habitually commit or practice sin. Indeed, the reborn spirit does not deliberately practice sin. So the way to not live in and practice sin is to live in and remain in constant communion and obedience to Christ.

The antidote to a life of sin is a life of consistent communion with Christ in the place of fellowship. He wants to spend time with you and wants you to reciprocate that communion in the place of fellowship with the Father and Son through the Holy Spirit.
