Boys to men

Boys to men

"Boys (lads), let no one deceive and lead you astray. He who practices righteousness [who is upright, conforming to the divine will in purpose, thought, and action, living a consistently conscientious life] is righteous, even as He is righteous. (1John.3.7 AMP)

It was the poet, William Wordsworth who coined the expression, "child is the father of the man" to say the way a man turns out in life is dependent on his childhood. At least that's one way to interpret it.

This is what the Apostle John teaches in this verse. He says to the lad, the young boys not to let any man deceive them. Drawing a sharp contrast between the boys and the men. Boys are still in the formative years and need the guiding hands of the man to show the way.

He says the man you must let lead you must practice righteousness. One who is upright, conforming to the divine will in purpose, thought, and action, living a consistently conscientious life. So that, it is not one that just speaks but has no fruits of righteousness to show for it.

One of the bane of society today is the lack of godly role models. A lot of men do not measure up, so how can they show the way? One who must show the way must himself have found the way and conform to God's divine purpose both in thoughts and actions. And must live a consistently conscientious life. The keyword is consistent.

"Don't let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you teach, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity. (1Tim.4.12 NLT)
