Held firmly by God

"We know that we are held firm by God; it's only the people of the world who continue in the grip of the Evil One." (1John.5.19 MSB)

We do not deny the existence of the evil one, the one called Satan or the devil. He is referred to as the accuser of the brethren and an adversary. Paul the Apostle tells us that he is the god of this world. (see 2 Cor:4:4) But I've got good news for you If you are a believer in Christ Jesus: "You are not in the grip of the evil one. Rather, God holds you firm in His hands. 

Our text says "We know..." It is important to know that you are 'held firm by God'. What we know determines what and how we trust. Trust that despite all that is going around God has got your back. He says I will be with you in trouble. Though there was darkness in Egypt, there was light in Goshen. Whatever the Egyptians suffered did not come upon the children of Israel. That typifies for us what our experiences should be in this day and age. Though the world around us is in the grip of the evil one, we are held firm by our God. 

God will not shame us. God will not let us down. God will cover and protect us. He holds us firm in His hand and no evil will come near our dwelling. But we have got to know this to appropriate it. We are held firm by God 

"For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him...." (2Chr.16.9)

Jesus is the answer to the sin problem

Jesus is the answer to the sin problem  "When he served as a sacrifice for our sins, he solved the sin problem for good--not only ours, but the whole world's". (1John.1.2 MSB) When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, the sin passed through them to all men. And so the Bible recorded that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.  "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" (Rom.5.12)  But that was just the beginning of the story. Sin entered the world, and death came as a result of sin. It appears that mankind was doomed.  But Jesus came and served the punishment for sin and in so doing, He solved the sin problem for good. Now mankind has access once again to the Father. Now everything the Father has for us is at our disposal. Who makes me who I am

An Isoko adage says, "the name you call yourself is what others will call you. Meeting students, I have had cause to ask them if that was the name their parents named them and they say no. My real name is...and then they tell me. But whatever they call themselves is what other students call them. You are who you say you are, but the truth is, you act the way you become because you think that's who you are. So if you called yourself a policeman when you are a soldier, you will act as a policeman. If you are an eagle but call yourself a chicken, then you will act like a chicken. If you call yourself a failure, that's what you begin to act as. Little wonder, Jabez changed his name in the place of prayer, he declared that he is blessed and God granted his prayers.
