The essence of prophecy

The essence of prophecy

"Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said, "No, don't worship me. For I am a servant of God, just like you and other brothers and sisters who testify of their faith in Jesus. Worship God. For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus." (Rev.19.10 NLT)

There is so much we can say about men worshipping men and those men playing God and standing as though they were God and not men. True men stop other men from ascribing worship to them and directing such worship to God. This is one way we make the witness for Jesus clear.

In the book of Acts of the Apostle we saw a situation where men tried to  worship the Apostles Paul and Barnabas but they stopped the people. Today, hero worship is gradually taking the place of true worship.  But to  be a clear witness for Jesus, we must point men to Him..

"When Barnabas and Paul finally realized what was going on, they stopped them. Waving their arms, they interrupted the parade, calling out, "What do you think you're doing! We're not gods! We are men just like you, and we're here to bring you the Message, to persuade you to abandon these silly god-superstitions and embrace God himself, the living God. We don't make God; he makes us, and all of this--sky, earth, sea, and everything in them. (Acts.14.14-15 MSB)

True servant of God directs and point others God-ward. Direct others to worship God. The text says to "Worship God". And then tells us about the essence of prophecy. It says it is to give clear witness for Jesus.

Whatever you do that do not give clear witness for Jesus misses the point. Jesus is the essence of all prophecy, He is the sum total of all the dictates of God. Your prophecy - preaching of the gospel, way of life misses the point if it does not give clear witness for Jesu . Make Jesus known by making the essence of your prophecy - which is to be a witness for Jesus - clear.
