Saves the best for last
Saves the best for last
"Then the king's cup-bearer spoke up. "Today I have been reminded of my failure," he said. (Gen.41.9 NLT)
Two full years was no small time to suffer amnesia. To forget the fingers that fed you? The destiny helpers God sent your way?
Let's backtrack for a bit - it is possible that if Joseph had not interpreted the head cupbearer's dream, Pharaoh still would have restored him. But since we were not told the timeline between when the dream was interpreted and when he was released, we could say that the interpretation gave him hope. And this was the same hope that Joseph sought - "just maybe if Pharaoh hears my side of the story, I would be released from this prison."
Only remember me when things are going well with you again--tell Pharaoh about me and get me out of this place. I was kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews. And since I've been here, I've done nothing to deserve being put in this hole." (Gen.40.14-15)
Today we live in a world where it is not okay, to not speak up for yourself, we even have a catchphrase for it now 'soro soke'. And we speak up to defend ourselves, to stand up for what is right, to speak up for the voiceless and less privileged, to speak truth to power etc. But having done all of these, yet the prison doors are still locked then we know that it has nothing to do with speaking up.
I believe God allowed the head cupbearer to forget Joseph for an opportune time. If he spoke up before now, it would not have worked up God's best for Joseph. So God save the best for last. God allowed him to suffer amnesia until the time was right.
I know it was God because once the table was set, no man reminded him. He spoke up, "Today I have been reminded of my failure". Question: Who reminded him? God will remind all your destiny helpers until then, hold on, God is setting up the table. He is saving the best for last.
Good day,
Have a great day today,
Emmanuel Okoro,
