It pays to fear God

It pays to fear God

"But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male children alive. And so it was, because the midwives feared God, that He provided households for them. (Exod.1.17, 21)

It pays to fear God.

Welcome to the last day of the year 2024, congratulations to you,, you made it. In a few hours, we will shout happy new year. And that will signify the beginning of 2025. Let me be the first to say to you, Happy New Year.

Our text tells the story of a king, a Pharaoh who did not know Joseph and as such put the children of Israel under taskmaster, they became slaves in Egypt. Now notice that many years before now, God had told Abraham that his descendant will be slave in Egypt. (See Gen. 15.13-15)  Meaning this did not take God unaware. He knew this was going to happen and had His plan in place.

This Pharaoh told the midwives to kill every male child that is born but the midwives disobeyed that order because they feared God. The Bible insatructs us to not fear those that can only kill the body but to fear God Who can destroy both the body and the soul. (see Matthew. 10.28)

As a result of this fear of God, the midwives activated the plan of God by not carrying out the Pharaoh's plan. And because they feared God, God provided household for them.

What does it mean to fear God? To eschew evil and do good. That is to deliberately avoid evil and do good. Make it your goal to fear God at all times. It pays to fear God.

See you in 2025...

Good day,
Have a great day today,
Emmanuel Okoro,
(aka Mr. Lift)
