May your head not reject blessings
May your head not reject blessings
"saying, "That's the wrong head, Father; the other one is the firstborn; place your right hand on his head." (Gen.48.18)
Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!
Our text tells the story of a father who was stock in his ways. Having been away from home for so long and very well entrenched in the culture of the new land, spoke up in a place where he believed his father was doing the wrong thing.
Was it not customary for the first born to receive the double portion of the blessing? Why then should he sit and watch as this justice was been subverted? Why should the younger get the double portion and the older is silent? Maybe he needs a little history lesson. His own father was the younger but got the father Isaac's blessing. He, also wasn't the oldest of his father's house but he got the double portion from Jacob his father.
"And I give you an extra portion beyond what I have given your brothers--the portion that I took from the Amorites with my sword and bow." (Gen.48.22 NLT)
Even the birth of The Christ we celebrate today, He was also not the first Adam. He is the last.
As Jacob got ready to depart this world, he adopted Joseph's two sons and rearranged their birth order, making the younger older and the older younger. That was also what the birth of Christ did for us. We were outside the commonwealth of Israel but Christ Jesus' death not only brought us in but also made us joint heirs with Christ and heirs of God.
"And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. (Rom.8.17 KJV)
May your head not reject the blessings as we celebrate Christmas. May all the blessings of Christmas be yours.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!
