competent men/women

Competent men/women

"And then you need to keep a sharp eye out for competent men--men who fear God, men of integrity, men who are incorruptible--and appoint them as leaders over groups organized by the thousand, by the hundred, by fifty, and by ten." (Exod.18.21)

There are always competent people around us but to find them we need to keep a sharp eye out for them. Competency may begin with the ability to get things done but it does not end there.
Moses helped us identify some of the other attributes that should come with competency.

These include, the fear of God - what does it mean to have the fear of God? Proverbs tells us that it is to depart from evil and do good.

Next on the list is integrity. It means to be whole, that is, not fragmented. It means you are in the dark where nobody can see you what you said you are in the light where everybody can see you. You are not two-faced.

And then, being incorruptable. That is, they are not only not corrupt but that they cannot be corrupted. Why? Because of the previous two attributes. It protect them from been corrupted.

Other attributes that we can glean from that passage is that competent people are leaders. Leadership is a skill that can be learnt. Simply put, it is the ability to take responsibility and see task through to competition effectively and efficiently.  Then they are organized,, that is the ability to prioritise, to put first things first and not allow distraction a breathing space. And finally, we see that they can grow. And this very key, because growth is important to competency. If all you are today is what you were yesterday, there is no growth. We know growth is a critical success factor because we see that the categories started from leaders ovet ten all the way to leaders over thousands in our text.

Moses tells us that these are the kind of people you want to appoint to leadership positions. This is a portrait of the kind of person you want to become.

Good day,
Have a great day today,
