God has no superstars
God has no superstars
"When Moses' father--in-law saw all that he was doing for the people, he said, "What's going on here? Why are you doing all this, and all by yourself, letting everybody line up before you from morning to night?" (Exod.18.14)
We have too many superstars in God today but God has no superstars. We have many stars of a Super God. God told Abraham that He will make his descendant as the stars in the sky and as the sands of the sea shores. But we see a lot who are trying to be superstars. This was the case of Moses in our text. The Bible says he will judge the whole of the people from morning till night.
"The next day Moses took his place to judge the people. People were standing before him all day long, from morning to night." (Exod.18.13)
But his wise father-in-law gave him counsel. That you are anointed and appointed does not make you the 'have all and be all'. Listen to others. Thank God, Moses listened. He took his father-in-law's council and delegated some of his responsibilities. It is the thinking that you are the one doing it that gets people into this kind of trouble. But if you recognise that it is God working through you, then that same God can work through others also.
Elijah had same challenge. He thought he was a superstar. He worked himself to the place where he cried out to God that he alone has not bowed to Baal and now they are after his life but God told him that He has seven thousand souls in Israel that has not bow their knee to Baal.
God also asked Elijah to distribute the work also. (see 1Kgs.19.15-17)
"Elijah said it again, "I've been working my heart out for GOD, the GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies, because the people of Israel have abandoned your covenant, destroyed your places of worship, and murdered your prophets. I'm the only one left, and now they're trying to kill me." (1Kgs.19.14)
And God says to him:
Meanwhile, I'm preserving for myself seven thousand souls: the knees that haven't bowed to the god Baal, the mouths that haven't kissed his image." (1Kgs.19.18)
This does not apply only in the pulpit but also in the business arena. Put others to work. Many hands make light work. God has no grandchildren and has no second best...
Good day,
Have a great day today,
Emmanluel Okoro,
