Don't show up empty-handed
Don't show up empty-handed
"Redeem your firstborn donkey with a lamb. If you don't redeem it you must break its neck. "Redeem each of your firstborn sons. "No one is to show up in my presence empty-handed."(Exod.34.20)
God told the children of Israel to not appear before Him empty-handed. The question really is what is it you will give to God that will satisfy Him? Maybe, just maybe, it is not about satisfying Him. It is more about obedient. Isaiah the protect talks about being willing and obedient (see Isa. 1.19)
What can a man give in exchange for his soul?
Jesus told the story of the widow who gave the smallest amount but gave the greatest gift.
"Sitting across from the offering box, he was observing how the crowd tossed money in for the collection. Many of the rich were making large contributions. One poor widow came up and put in two small coins--a measly two cents. Jesus called his disciples over and said, "The truth is that this poor widow gave more to the collection than all the others put together. All the others gave what they'll never miss; she gave extravagantly what she couldn't afford--she gave her all." (Mark. 12.41-44 MSG)
She made more sacrifices than a the other put together. I have learnt that it is not equal amount but equal sacrifice. When you give what you can, when you can, and where you can, you would have done all that is required of you. And this is not so much about money alone - but every and anything that you have that can be given - your time, your talent, your wisdom etc, but this time not to men but to God, rather, better put, in service to God.
What do you have in your hands? What do you bring in services to God? God says, "do not show up empty-handed." Think about that.
Good day,
Have a great day today,
