God above all else
God above all else
"Go up to the land flowing with milk and honey. But I will not go with you, because you are a stiff-necked people and I might destroy you on the way." (Exod.33.3 NIV)
I believe that this verse accounts for one of the major reasons why most of the generation of israelite that came out of Egypt did not not make it into the promise land. The singular fact God was not with them.
God says to them, "Go.. but I will not go with you..." I heard an interest story the other day of a man who was to go and sell his cow at the market. He was told to pray that by the grace of God he shall sell it. But he responded, "Why pray? Is it not to just take the cow to the market and sell it? Why bother God, when I can do it? He left for the market in the morning and did not return until the evening. When he finally did, he was asked how it went. He responded that he truly should have asked God's help. Why they asked him. He said the cow was stolen.
See how a seemingly simple chore turned out. He ended up without the cow, money and wasted effort but a valuable lesson. Jesus taught us a very important lesson. He says "He can do nothing without God."
"Jesus replied, "I assure you, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does." (John.5.19 NLT)
The wise King puts it succinctly
"Commit your work to the LORD, and then your plans will succeed." (Prov.16.3 NLT)
God above all else...
