Stay Small

Stay Small

“GOD wasn’t attracted to you and didn’t choose you because you were big and important — the fact is, there was almost nothing to you.” (Deut. 7:7)

God reminds us that His choice was never based on what we had, who we knew, or how important we looked. If status and success were not what qualified us to be chosen by Him, then it makes no sense to think those things can keep us in His favor.

God was drawn to Israel because they were small and dependent. That same truth is echoed in the New Testament:

“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.” (1 Pet. 5:6 KJV)

The prophet Samuel asked Saul a crucial question after pride crept into his heart:

“When you were small in your own sight, were you not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD anointed you king over Israel?” (1 Sam. 15:17 AMP)

The moment Saul stopped being “small,” he fell from the place God lifted him to.

God always chooses the unlikely:

“Chose these "nobodies" to expose the hollow pretensions of the "somebodies"?.” (1 Cor. 1:28)

In God’s kingdom, the path upward always begins downward. He lifts the humble and opposes the proud. No matter how high you rise, remain low before Him.

Stay small. Stay humble. Stay dependent.
In due season, God Himself will lift you up.

Reflection
Where am I beginning to rely on my own strength, status, or achievements instead of God? Do I still see myself as small before Him, or have I become “big” in my own eyes?

Prayer
Father, thank You for choosing me even when I had nothing to offer.
Help me to remain humble, dependent, and small in my own eyes. Remove every prideful thought from my heart and teach me to walk in meekness. Lift me only in Your time and in Your way, that all the glory may return to You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Have a fruitful day,
