Self-Made Man/Woman

“If you start thinking to yourselves, ‘I did all this, all by myself. I’m rich—it’s all mine!’—think again. Remember that GOD, your God, gave you the strength to produce all this wealth to confirm the covenant He promised to your ancestors—as it is today.”
— Deuteronomy 8:17–18 (MSG)

What is the true purpose of wealth? Is it merely for self-promotion, or does it serve a higher purpose?

Scripture warns us not to boast in our success or claim self-sufficiency. The truth is humbling: there is no such thing as a self-made man or woman. Behind every accomplishment stands the God who gives power, wisdom, opportunity, and strength to prosper.

That’s why He says, “Remember!”—because humans so easily forget. When life is good, we tend to take credit and forget the Source. This is the mistake of the rich fool in Luke 12:19–21, who congratulated himself for his great harvest, only for God to call him a fool that very night. He had filled his barns with self instead of with God.

"and I'll say to myself, Self, you've done well! You've got it made and can now retire. Take it easy and have the time of your life!' "Just then God showed up and said, "Fool! Tonight you die. And your barnful of goods--who gets it?' "That's what happens when you fill your barn with Self and not with God." (Luke.12.19 - 21)

A life built on self-achievement alone is like a basket dipped in water—it appears full for a moment, but once lifted out, it quickly empties. Every success, every blessing, every breakthrough is by God’s enabling hand.

So, remember: it is God who gives you the power to create wealth—not for pride, but for purpose.

Reflection:
Success without God is emptiness. True wealth is found in acknowledging Him as the Source and using what He gives to serve His purpose.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being the Source of my strength and success. Keep me from pride and forgetfulness. Help me to use all You’ve given me for Your glory and the good of others. Amen.

Daily ration, daily routine  "GOD said to Moses, "I'm going to rain bread down from the skies for you. The people will go out and gather each day's ration. I'm going to test them to see if they'll live according to my Teaching or not. On the sixth day, when they prepare what they have gathered, it will turn out to be twice as much as their daily ration." (Exod.16.4 - 5) What you do daily determine what you become permanently. God had told the children of Israel that he was going set up rules and procedures for them to follow. In this day and age, we would have said structures and systems but rules and procedures communicate the same intentions.  So God says to Moses in response to the complaint against God about not having enough to eat. God says He will rain bread down from the skies but these bread are to be taken by the people on a daily basis and on the sixth day, they will take a double portion. Take only what the day requires. Be mindful of the crowd of riffraff "GOD saw to it that the Egyptians liked the people and so readily gave them what they asked for. Oh yes! They picked those Egyptians clean. The Israelites moved on from Rameses to Succoth, about 600,000 on foot, besides their dependents. There was also a crowd of riffraff tagging along, not to mention the large flocks and herds of livestock." Exod.12.36 - 38) These verses bring to mind the parable Jesus told about the wheat and tares. The Bible says the farmer planted good seed but at mid night while men slept the enemy sowed tares among the good seed. When he was asked if the tares be uprooted, he told them no, but that they should grow together. The operative word been grow.  "Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.
