Power of Foresight

Power of Foresight

"You also get the hill country. It's nothing but trees now, but you will clear the land and make it your own from one end to the other. The powerful Canaanites, even with their iron chariots, won't stand a chance against you." Joshua 17:18)

Foresight is the ability to see beyond what is physically present. It is the capacity to perceive possibilities where others see limitations. It is vision inspired by faith — seeing from God’s perspective rather than from human fear.

In this passage, Joshua speaks to the children of Joseph who felt their allotted land was insufficient. Instead of simply agreeing with their complaint, he redirected their vision. He acknowledged their need for more space but pointed them to the hill country — a land covered with thick forests and occupied by strong enemies with iron chariots.

To the natural eye, it looked unusable and intimidating. But to the eye of foresight, it was potential waiting to be developed.

Joshua was essentially saying: “What looks like a forest is actually your future home. What looks like an obstacle is your opportunity. What looks occupied is already yours — if you are willing to clear it.”

Foresight does not deny difficulties; it looks beyond them. Some people see problems; others see possibilities. Some see iron chariots; others see inevitable victory. When foresight is anchored in God’s promise, even the most formidable opposition cannot stand.

The difference between defeat and dominion is often vision.

Reflection

1. What “forest” in your life have you dismissed because it looks difficult?

2. Are you focusing more on the “iron chariots” than on God’s promise?

3. What would change if you began to see your challenges as territories waiting to be claimed?

Foresight turns complaints into courage. It transforms fear into faith. It helps us see not just what is, but what can be through God’s power.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, open my eyes to see beyond present limitations. Help me to view my challenges from Your perspective. Where I see obstacles, show me opportunities. Where I see forests, show me fertile ground. Give me the courage to clear what stands before me and the faith to confront every “iron chariot” in my path. Strengthen my vision, increase my boldness, and help me walk confidently into the future You have prepared for me.In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Have a fruitful day
