Covenant Keeping God
Covenant Keeping God
“I brought you out of Egypt and led you into the land I promised to your fathers. I said, I will never break my covenant with you—never!” (Judg. 2:1)
I can imagine the angel of the Lord going from Gilgal to Bokim after the fulfillment of a promise that had been spoken hundreds of years earlier. God had told Abraham that his descendants would be strangers and slaves in a foreign land for four hundred years, and at the time of that promise, Isaac had not yet been born, nor Jacob, nor Joseph who would later take them to Egypt. Yet after all those generations, God fulfilled every word.
One might expect that God would come simply to celebrate the fulfillment of such an ancient promise. After all, the Bible tells us that it is the Father’s good pleasure to give us the kingdom (Luke 12:32). But instead of celebrating Himself, God reassured His people of something even greater — that He is a covenant-keeping God and that He would never break His covenant with them.
This is why it pleases God when we believe Him. Hebrews 11:6 tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God. When we trust Him, we position ourselves to receive what He has already promised. God’s promises are not fragile, and His covenant is not temporary. What He says, He does. What He promises, He fulfills. He is a covenant-keeping God, and He will never break His covenant with you.
Reflection
Sometimes we worry that God may change His mind about us or forget His promises because of our weaknesses or delays we experience. But God’s faithfulness does not depend on our feelings, our timing, or our circumstances. It depends on His character. And His character is unchanging. The same God who kept His promise to Abraham after hundreds of years is the same God who is working in our lives today. If He said it, He will do it.
Prayer
Lord, thank You because You are a covenant-keeping God. Thank You because Your promises never fail and Your word never returns to You empty. Help me to trust You even when I do not understand Your timing. Strengthen my faith to believe Your word and hold on to Your promises. I rest in the assurance that You will never break Your covenant with me. Amen.
Have a fruitful day,
