I Choose God
I Choose God
"If you decide that it’s a bad thing to worship the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve—whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD." (Josh. 24:15)
I choose God.
Again and again, I choose You, O Lord.
I am reminded of the familiar words of a hymn: “To see Thee more clearly, love Thee more dearly, and follow Thee more nearly, day by day.” That is the cry of my heart. Therefore, I choose God.
Joshua’s call to Israel to choose was deliberate and urgent. Choice matters because it gives direction to our lives. What we choose shapes our priorities, fuels our passion, and sustains our resolve when challenges arise.
Following God is not accidental—it is a conscious decision. Certainly, God works in us “to will and to do of His good pleasure,” yet we must respond. We must decide. This is why Scripture also urges us to “work out your salvation with fear and trembling.” In other words, we have a role to play in our walk with God.
This also brings to mind the charge God gave through Moses:
"I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live." (Deut. 30:19)
God not only presents the options—He lovingly points us to the right one: choose life.
Today and every day, the decision remains before us. And by His grace, I choose life. I choose what is good. I choose what leads to wholeness and health. Above all, I choose God.
Reflection
Every day we are faced with choices—some small, others life-shaping. Joshua’s declaration reminds us that faith is not merely inherited or assumed; it is chosen. When we intentionally choose God, we align our lives with His purposes. Such a decision does not remove challenges, but it anchors our hearts and directs our steps. Choosing God daily strengthens our devotion and deepens our walk with Him.
Prayer
Lord, today I choose You.
Turn my heart continually toward You. Help me to see You more clearly, love You more deeply, and follow You more faithfully each day. Strengthen my resolve when distractions arise and guide my choices so that they bring honor to Your name. May my life—and my household—stand as a testimony that we serve the Lord. Amen.
Have a fruitful day,
