Leaders Commend

Leaders Commend

“And now the LORD your God has given rest to your brothers, as He promised them. Therefore, return to your tents, to the land of your possession which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the other side of the Jordan.”Joshua 22:4)

True leadership is not only about identifying problems; it is about providing solutions with wisdom and balance. A good leader knows when to apply pressure, when to stand firm, and—most importantly—when to commend. Commendation is not weakness; it is strength guided by discernment.

Sadly, commendation has become rare in our time. Many leaders focus more on what is lacking than on the effort already invested. Yet effort matters. Results may not always be immediately visible, but where genuine commitment exists, progress is only a matter of time.

The two and a half tribes went ahead of the others, fighting alongside their brothers until God’s promise was fulfilled. When their assignment was completed, Joshua called them and openly affirmed them. He released them to return home with honor, acknowledging their obedience and sacrifice before God. Their labor was seen. Their faithfulness was celebrated.

What leaders commend gets repeated. What leaders tolerate continues. This principle applies not only to organizations and teams, but also to our personal lives. When effort, loyalty, and faithfulness are acknowledged, they flourish.

This is why the words of are so powerful: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Commendation from a leader—and from God—strengthens the heart and inspires excellence.

Have you said “well done” to your team lately? Do you truly see the people around you, or only what they have not yet achieved? Appreciate people. Cherish people and use things—not the other way around. Let no one perceive you as a “user.” See people. Value them. Commend them. Leaders commend.

Reflection
Leadership that mirrors God’s heart recognizes faithfulness, not just outcomes. When we learn to appreciate effort and obedience, we cultivate loyalty, growth, and peace. Ask yourself today: Am I the kind of leader whose words heal, strengthen, and release others?

Prayer
Lord God, thank You for being a faithful Leader who sees our labor and rewards obedience. Teach me to lead like You—with wisdom, balance, and grace. Help me to recognize effort, affirm faithfulness, and commend those You have placed around me. May my words inspire growth, unity, and rest in the lives of others. Let me hear, and help others hear, Your words: “Well done.”
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Have a fruitful day,
