Rise to the Occasion

Rise to the Occasion

"Tola son of Puah, the son of Dodo, was next after Abimelech. He rose to the occasion to save Israel. He was a man of Issachar. He lived in Shamir in the hill country of Ephraim." (Judg.10.1)

There are sayings that stir the soul: “May the road rise to meet you,” and sometimes, “May your road be rough.” Strange as the second sounds, both carry one truth — growth often comes when life demands more from us than comfort ever will.

The Bible says that after the chaos and destruction caused by Abimelech, Tola rose to save Israel. He did not wait for perfect conditions. He did not hide among spectators. He stepped into responsibility when the moment called for courage.

Pause and think about it: when was the last time you truly rose to the occasion? When was the last time you attempted something that stretched your faith, challenged your capacity, or forced you beyond the boundaries of convenience?

Many people live only within the circle of what is familiar. They stay where everything is predictable, safe, and manageable. But nothing remarkable is born there. History rarely remembers those who never dared.

Growth begins the moment we step beyond what we already know. Purpose awakens when we confront challenges bigger than our comfort zones. There are things you can do today almost with your eyes closed because you have mastered them. But there are new mountains waiting — mountains that will test your mindset, sharpen your gifts, and reveal strengths you never knew you possessed.

So I dare you today: rise to the occasion. Attempt the difficult conversation. Start the vision that intimidates you. Learn the skill you feel unqualified for. Trust God enough to walk into rooms where you must depend on Him completely.

You were not created merely to stay comfortable. You were created to rise.

Reflection:
Every significant season in life comes with an occasion that demands growth. The question is not whether opportunities to rise will come; the question is whether we will answer when they do. Comfort preserves us, but challenges transform us.

Prayer:
Lord, give me the courage to rise when life calls me higher. Deliver me from the trap of comfort and fear. Strengthen me to embrace challenges that grow my faith, sharpen my gifts, and fulfill my purpose. Help me to trust You in unfamiliar places and to rise boldly into all You have called me to become in Jesus' name. Amen.

Have a fruitful day,
